Check for cemetery records with the church, sexton and/or funeral directors. Visit the cemetery and take a picture of the tombstone. Check the obituaries in that time frame.

Church records may include births, christenings, marriages, deaths and burials. Be sure you have the correct church/religious denomination. If you're not sure, search the churches closest to home first and then broaden your search in ever-widening circles.

Both Civil Registration and Census Returns run out when you get back to about 1840, and rarely provide information relevant before 1800. At this stage you need to turn to Parish Records: These date back to the mid 1500's. Cromwell, at the Court of Henry VIII, ordered that every wedding, baptism and burial should be recorded.
